Google Yourself

Will Richardson writes about using Google to discover what’s what about a new hire. Have you ever thought about looking up a teacher you work with, the school administrator, a parent, your students? It’s an eye opening experience to see what comes up on a Google search when you type in your own name. It teaches us to prepare a positive online image for yourself. Do you have an online image? What does it say? Do you keep it up to date? Have you joined the blogoshpere? Do you have a website?

If you have that online presence, does it convey a positive image of yourself? Or does it show the wild side of your personality? When young people use MySpace and Facebook to showcase their fun, what do scholarship committee members, university admissions officers and parents think? Should we as educators bring this to their attention? More and more employers, your boss and universities do a Google search for prospective students and employees to see what they do online. It can influence decisions that impact one’s future. Are you ready? It only takes a minute…oops, I better go update.
