Junior Tech Camp

Written by Linda on Feb 9th, 2009 | Filed under: Interesting things, Teaching and Learning, Web 2.0 tools

Last Thursday I visited students at Southside Middle School to find out about their participation in the new Junior Tech Camp that Leann Dowty, the school media specialist, started in October. The camp is held after school each six weeks connecting a technology based activity with the school’s six weeks theme of study. In October the students learned about Bitstrips.com. Each student created their version of themselves then Leann used some of their images on her school blog.

In November they worked on elections issues comparing both candidates by creating posters, using Microsoft Word, showing something about each candidate. The posters were displayed at the school.

The next camp will teach the students photo editing using Picasa which is now available in beta for Mac. While I was there the students and their camp sponsors sat down for a podcast included with this posting. I asked if I could visit again to see what others interesting things they are learning. The students welcomed the change to show what they know.

During my visit we recorded their observations as a podcast. Check it out here.
